Welcome to my website. Taking the step of looking for a therapist is an important step that requires strength and courage.

Given all of the various counseling and psychological services available, it can be a bit confusing to find a therapist with the right level of training and experience to meet your needs. A good fit between you and your therapist is a crucial factor in ensuring that you get the most out of our work together. The information below is intended to help you assess whether my training, experience and theoretical approach are a good fit for you.

Which degree have you earned and what does it mean?

I have earned PhD, which is the highest level of education that a person can earn in the field of Psychology. A PhD means that in addition to therapeutic work, I am also consumer and producer of scientific research. As a psychologist and a scientist, I ensure that the work we do in therapy is based on solid, scientifically based research. I am always up to date on the latest trends that scientific research supports, as well as clinically trained thoroughly in the therapeutic methods I use. I completed my doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon in 2008.

I am also Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology. Board certification means specialty beyond a doctoral level of education.

What kind of experience do you have?

I am fortunate to have been in private practice for over 8 years and have had the pleasure of working with people from all walks of life. I also have worked in university counseling centers and hospitals, and have taught graduate and undergraduate level courses. I am also a native Spanish speaker.

What is your approach to therapy? What can I expect?

My approach to individual therapy is mainly psychodynamic. What this means is that initially we will focus on helping you cope better in healthier ways, and once you are feeling better and more empowered, we will then explore the underlying components of your symptoms in order to achieve long-lasting healing and well-being. I integrate several therapeutic approaches in order to achieve the best results, including mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and EMDR. I am always keeping my eye out for therapeutic approaches that help my clients to realizing the outcomes they’re here to achieve.

My approach with Couples Therapy Boca Raton

I utilize the Gottman Method, which is backed up by more than 30 years of research on what makes committed long-term relationships work, and focuses on strengths and concrete tools to help a couple create a relationship that is long-lasting and with effective tools to navigate conflict and life stress. I also help couples who have been affected by trauma, either as a couple, or a partner who needs specific support from their loved one.

My goal is to help you recognize, understand and have compassion for how you may have developed less-than-ideal ways of dealing specific areas of your life. In addition, you will learn about tools, how to use them and more importantly – how to recognize when to use them. In other words, my goal is to help you develop self-awareness and to have the tools needed to make healthy choices and decisions in your life.

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to call for a complimentary 15 minute phone conversation to answer your questions and help you get started.

I sincerely look forward to hearing from you.
